The Inner Counselor Process (ICPTM) is a 15-step guided self-awareness process. The actual steps are not provided on this website, since supervised training is preferred in order to learn to be an effective guide for this dynamic process. The 15-Steps have been developed over a twenty year time period. The steps provide a reliably safe structure for exploring and transforming subconscious reactions that are part of survival-based coping patterns. The authority for each Process is vested in the person experiencing the Process - the facilitator provides a supportive working space and the sequential structure of the 15-Steps. The basic four-day Seminar with distance follow-up, such as that provided in the course work at Holos University, is usually sufficient to form a basic foundation for using this process. During the Process participants experince a state of light reverie. Connected with Inner Wisdom and with all their senses they engage in gentle but powerful guided imagery and visualization. This approach includes the following elements:
  • Inner wisdom is engaged;
  • Key sensations and emotions are felt in the body;
  • Corresponding incidents are revisited;
  • Intrinsic needs are identified;
  • Mental, emotional, and physical resolution is achieved.
  • Symbolically encoded new response patterns transform trauma and old coping patterns.
  • Results are profound and lasting.

Old patterns of thought and behavior are changed and integrated levels of awareness are established. As we become aware of the intrinsic qualities underlying all appearances, we can choose to move out of the realm of emotional "automaton" and into the realm of authentic "being". This authenticity has been described by Carl Jung as "Individuation" and by Abraham Maslow as "Self-actualization". The Mystic Spiral illustrates the movement towards authentic being that is experienced with each Process.

The emotions and thought patterns we habitually entertain are the "stuff" of our personal journey. It is important to become aware that this stuff is not who we truly are, but rather a momentary, often unconscious expression of our conditioning experiences. We may cling to this stuff as if, without it, we would sacrifice safety, acceptance, and even our unique identity. By choosing to process dysfunctional emotions and attitudes we give ourselves a gift of true choice. The ICP provides a powerful tool for moving beyond the barriors of trauma, dysfunction, and neediness to fully claim our "imprisioned splendor".
